Catechism Instruction |
|
Before receiving communicant members into Trinity, we use Luther's Catechism to teach the truths of God's Word so that after instruction people can profess to believe what Trinity teaches. We generally do this for either adults who were formerly unchurched or belonged to a different church body or for our own 5th-8th grade members. For information on the catechism instruction for adults, please go to our Bible Basics webpage. 5th-8th Grade Catechism Instruction As a part of Trinity's curriculum of spiritual education for our members, each year we have Confirmation for our 8th graders. The Rite of Confirmation allows our 8th graders, after proper instruction, to confess their belief and their commitment in the faith into which they were baptized as children. Upon their confirmation, they become "full-fledged" members in our congregation, invited and encouraged to participate in worship, adult Bible study, the Lord's Supper, and every other aspect of our congregation. We begin this confirmation instruction with our children in 5th grade. Trinity Lutheran School offers these classes to our 5th-8th graders as a part of their regular school day. For our members who attend a school other than Trinity, we offer this instruction on Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00pm. 5th and 6th grade meet together in the school's 5th and 6th grade classroom and 7th and 8th grade meet together in the school's 7th and 8th grade classroom. Trinity's pastors teach these two classes. The basis of this instruction is one of the Lutheran Confessions - Luther's Small Catechism. Luther's Small Catechism was written to be a textbook to assist families in teaching their children the truth's of God's Word. It is with that intent that we use the catechism, working with families to train the next generations of God's children. |
