The teachers are often asked what they would like to have in the school to improve the quality of education. These are items the teachers would find useful, but are not immediately necessary. Contact the school office or Mr. Knickelbein if you would like to help with any of these items or would like more information on any. Some of these items you may already have, you may find at garage sales, give money for the teachers to purchase on their own, or directly purchase for the school yourself.
3K/4K Classroom
Kindergarten to 2nd Grade Classroom
- Whiteboard - for Grades K-2
- Computer for K-2 room - We plan to relocate a SMARTBoard into the K-2 classroom, and would like to place a dedicated presentation PC in the room with it. Any computer 2 years old or newer would likely be sufficient. If money is given towards this, we could likely find a new computer in the $300-400 range.
6th through 8th Grade Classroom
- Class sets of novels for reading class ($50-125 per set)
- Spanish software - we are currently using Rosetta Stone level 1, and may at some point look to have level 2. We currently can accommodate 10 users at a time. If we had 6 more licenses, the entire 6-8th grade class could use Rosetta Stone at the same time and we could potentially set aside time specifically designated for Spanish instruction. A few microphones would also need to be purchased. Talk to Mr. Knickelbein about looking into cost for additional licenses.
Art Supplies for General Use
- Foam Art sheets (about $5)
- Glitter Glue ($2-3)
- Cricut Cartridges and mats ($17-40)
- Vertical Roll Paper Rack, 8-roll ($550)

Shared by All Classrooms
- Library Books - both for classroom libraries and school library (age-appropriate and award-winners are best)
- Laminator - the large-format laminator that we have does not work reliably as it was an early model and does not have the now-standard features to laminate well. New units cost $1000-2000.
- Computer memory - Upgrading our lab computers to 2 GB each would get us ready to install Windows 7 on each. Partially completed. To finish: need 9 of these [link to NewEgg] and 1 of these [link to NewEgg].
- Software licenses - We can get Windows 7 on every computer in our school for $95/year.
- Computer server - Our current server is ancient and should be replaced. Cost: $500-1000.
- Network-ready laser printer - for use in the computer lab
- Network-ready color laser printer - for use in the computer lab
- Digital Camera - with accessories for general school use. Our current camera is aging.
- Digital Video Camera - for use with classroom projects; one that can upload videos to a computer for use with Microsoft Movie Maker
- AED - the teachers are already trained to use an AED. The units cost around $1500 fully-equipped.
Administrative
- Phone system - A system that can intercom between classrooms and with the secretary, has separate voice mailboxes for teachers, and allow for intelligent handling of calls in the afternoons when our secretary is not available
- Outdoor Network Camera - for monitoring the front door, here is a good option at Amazon.
- Promotions - sponsor a professionally designed and/or produced brochure, mailing, billboard, sign, etc. - anything to get the word out about our school. We can work together to come up with something to fit the amount you would want to give.
Maintenance
- Bathroom faucets - some do not work properly; motion-sense mechanism?
- New front doors - for better first impressions and energy efficiency
- Repair or replace water coolers - drinking fountain/bubblers upstairs no longer cool properly and are excessively noisy
- Landscaping and mulch - areas especially around playground need attention every few years for ongoing maintenance
